Open source software for interest-free banking

This is a proposal made by Johan Oppmark, JAK Member Bank’s CEO, on January 2011.  Working together to develop open source software for interest-free banking:

”I’ve been asked several times how JAK uses open source programs. The answer is that we use open source software as much as possible in our business but there is a clear potential for development in this area for JAK.

People from different countries contact us and visit here in Sweden because they are interested in starting up similar banks in their countries. We are always open about how our savings loan system works and how it is best to handle it, what problems may arise and what opportunities it can provide. We have in recent years had visits from Germany, Italy, USA, UK and Spain. A recurring question from visitors is whether they can use our banking system to start up a member-bank at home. Our response has so far always been that, “yes - if they can speak Swedish ... “
But to link this issue with the question of how we use open source in business has made me think: What is needed is a project for the development (in open source) of a system for managing savings loan system with different languages ​​and different currencies.

Open source development fits like a glove with JAK's thoughts on cooperativism and collaboration. Imagine hundreds of people around the world working together to develop an open source software for interest-free banking. A software that can be used and developed for local conditions by the people in different countries who want to start up a member-owned, interest-free bank
